3 Food Establishments Downgraded by Singapore Food Agency

The following food establishments’ “SFA Food Hygiene Grade” are downgraded due to Food Poisoning Incident:

1) Canteen Located at 1A Kent Ridge Road, King Edward VII Hall, NUS, Singapore 119224.

2) Food Caterers “Mum’s Kitchen Catering” Located at 3015 Bedok North Street 5, #02-06, Singapore 486350.

3) “Cherish Delights” Located at 3015 Bedok North Street 5, #02-08, Singapore 486350.

70 persons were reported to have gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food prepared at a canteen located at 1A Kent Ridge Road, King Edward VII Hall, NUS, Singapore 119224 on 30 September 2019. None were hospitalised, and all have recovered. 

SFA – Singapore Food Agency

A joint inspection by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) was conducted at the canteen on 1 October 2019. Poor food hygiene practices were observed during the inspection.  

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has adjusted the canteen’s food hygiene grade from “B”  to “C” with effect from 7 January 2020, to be reviewed in 12 months. The premises will also be kept under surveillance.  

Separately, the licences of Mum’s Kitchen Catering and Cherish Delights were suspended on 10 and 11 September 2019 respectively, after two separate outbreaks of gastroenteritis illness involving 40 cases who had consumed food prepared on their premises between 31 August 2019 and 4 September 2019. Three cases were hospitalised and have since been discharged, and all have recovered.

The suspensions were subsequently lifted on 9 October 2019 after Mum’s Kitchen Catering and Cherish Delights complied with measures stipulated by SFA during the suspension period.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has adjusted the food caterers’ food hygiene grade from “A”  to “C” with effect from 7 January 2020, to be reviewed in 12 months. The premises will also be kept under surveillance. 

Food operators are reminded to adhere to good food hygiene and safety processes.
