SFA Recalls Mio Sparkling Sake Premium Due To Concerns Over Kidney Health Risks (SFA)

Pan Pacific Retail Management (Singapore) has voluntarily recalled Mio Sparkling Sake Premium (Rose) (750 ml) and Mio Sparkling Sake Premium (Rose) (300ml), following a voluntary recall of the two products in Japan by the manufacturer, Takara Shuzo International Co Ltd.

2 The implicated products contain “beni koji” (red yeast rice), an ingredient used as a health supplement.

The Japanese drugmaker of the red yeast rice had voluntarily recalled this health supplement following complaints about kidney problems associated with the consumption of the supplement.


3 As a precautionary measure, the Singapore Food Agency has directed the importer, Pan Pacific Retail Management (Singapore), to recall the implicated products. The recall is ongoing.


4 Under the Sale of Food Act, foods that are known to be unsafe for consumption should not be sold. Consumers who have purchased the implicated products should not consume it.

Those who have consumed the products and are unwell should seek medical attention.
