Low Meng Kee Food Pte Ltd was fined $2,500 by the Court today for carrying out food manufacturing activities at an unlicensed premises (at a building located in Senoko Industrial Estate).
2 Low Meng Kee Food Pte Ltd was previously licensed to carry out food manufacturing activities at this premises until April 2019, when they ceased operations to undergo major renovation works.
They are required to obtain a new licence from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) before they can resume their food manufacturing activities.

3 In July 2020, SFA officers conducted a surprise inspection at the newly renovated premises and found that Low Meng Kee Food Pte Ltd was producing ‘chwee kueh’ and carrot cake, although they had not obtained a valid licence from SFA.
About 3,880 pieces of ‘chwee kueh’ produced in the unlicensed premises were seized on the spot, while the carrot cakes which had been distributed were immediately recalled by the company.
4 Illegal production of food products at unlicensed facilities poses a food safety risk. In Singapore, all food manufacturing facilities must be licensed and are required to meet SFA’s requirements.
These licensed establishments are also routinely inspected by SFA. Offenders who illegally manufacture food products shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $10,000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months, or both.
