{"id":1559,"date":"2020-03-17T06:53:26","date_gmt":"2020-03-16T22:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgtaste.sg\/?p=1559"},"modified":"2020-03-17T06:53:33","modified_gmt":"2020-03-16T22:53:33","slug":"singapore-food-agency-clarifies-fake-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgtaste.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/17\/singapore-food-agency-clarifies-fake-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Singapore Food Agency Clarifies Fake News"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong><em>Singapore Food Agency (SFA)<\/em><\/strong> has noted some messages circulating on <em>WhatsApp<\/em> and social media that claim that a poultry farm in <em>Pontian, Johor<\/em>, <em>Malaysia<\/em> is affected by bird flu. <br><br>The message also alleged that the farm\u2019s poultry had been slaughtered and sent to Singapore in two lorries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We would like to clarify that Singapore does not import chilled or frozen poultry from <em>Pontian<\/em>, as there is currently no poultry slaughterhouse in <em>Pontian<\/em> accredited by SFA to export chilled\/frozen poultry to Singapore. <br><br>Only <em>SFA-accredited<\/em> slaughterhouses are allowed to export frozen poultry from Malaysia to Singapore. <br><br>The export of frozen poultry from Malaysia must be accompanied by valid health certificates issued by Department of Veterinary Services, Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"388\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/sgtaste.sg\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/image-292.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-787\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sgtaste.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/image-292.png 388w, https:\/\/sgtaste.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/image-292-300x244.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/><figcaption>SFA<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>While Singapore allows live poultry to be imported from approved farms in Pontian, these imports must similarly be accompanied by valid health certificates issued by the Department of Veterinary Services, Malaysia. <br><br>They are also subjected to border inspections by the National Parks Board\u2019s Animal &amp; Veterinary Service (AVS) to ensure the poultry are healthy before import, and sampling and testing by SFA.
